Will it fit?
The EasyFit repair kit is specifically designed for Smiths / Jaeger RV and RVI type tachometers. These tachometers can be easily identified as they have the letters "RV" or "RVI" marked on the dial (note that this lettering is very small and is sometimes at the bottom of the dial or at the base of the needle). You can find a list of compatible part numbers here.
The EasyFit Kit requires an internal case diameter of at least 82mm and the mounting hole arrangement on the back of the tacho must be as shown in the illustration. If your Tacho does not match these dimensions or your part number starts RVC please see our UniTacho Tacho Repair Kit
Will the repaired tacho be compatible with my car's ignition system?
The EasyFit tacho repair kit is compatible with contact breakers and with most electronic ignition systems. It has been tested with Accuspark, Powerspark, and 123 Ignition systems. It is not designed for use with CDI or multispark ignition systems, however, many of these systems have a tacho output signal which can be used with our UniTacho kit.
EasyFit Fitting Instructions
The EasyFit Tacho repair kits will repair three different types of Smiths / Jaeger tachometer - see below to choose the correct fitting instructions for your tachometer. There is a separate set of vehicle installation instructions which applies to all three tachometer types.
RV type - These have the letters "RV" marked in small lettering on the dial. They were originally driven from a Tacho Generator on the vehicle. Once the repair kit is fitted the tachometer will be driven directly from the ignition coil with no need for a tacho generator,
RVI Gen 1 Type - These have the lettering "RVI" marked on the dial and are driven from the ignition coil current. The ignition coil feed wire is looped through a transformer on the back of the case.
RVI Gen2 Type - These also have "RVI" marked on the dial. They are driven from the ignition coil current but the connection is via two bullet connectors on the back of the case.
